To Micro Destination Wedding, or Not to Micro Destination Wedding in COVID Times.

One of the things that is becoming inherently clear to this wedding planner is that the destination wedding and all events are not going to go back to business as usual. The new normal looks to be a mix of different mediums of communication platforms as well as different looks and feels for all in-person events.

Events will be smaller and intimate but more impactful. All events will convey a story that will include the past and what is going on in the present. From the emotional side, events are bringing things to a deeper level.

Many Brides and Grooms are deciding to keep their dates. Wedding dates are usually symbolic to couples of when they met, their first date or the combination of numbers look and sound cool when you say them. The 20th of any month is cool when you say it with 2020. Some dates are set by Rabbi’s or Hindu priests and if so that is when the couple will get married whether they have a small and intimate ceremony due to the current climate or not. The date is set and that is the date.

A micro wedding by definition according to google is: “any ceremony/reception with less than 50 total guests. Couples often combine an elopement and a reception to create a micro wedding”. I am grateful that I looked this up because it sounds like a micro wedding IS a destination wedding. Very often our groups are under 100 guests.

My definition of a micro wedding would be an elopement with a few guests. The destination elopement is becoming more and more on-trend as we finish out 2020 and go into destination weddings in 2021. These will be planned when couples feel they are safe and can travel. They will be set in Unique destination wedding locations and they will be very last minute.

Many places are not open to events of 50 or more right now. And probably won’t be for some time. But #loveisnotcanceled people are still going to get married. Everyone will celebrate later with larger gatherings. I do not see us swinging back into anything over 100 at least until sometime in 2021. Or even in 2022.

One of the things that we are taking out of the COIVD-19 wedding and event crisis is new technology. We have Zoom on speed dial, Facebook Live, and Google Meet ready to go. If you have a family member that cannot be there with you they will be able to join you on your day with one of these new ways on live communication.

As a destination wedding planner, we are looking at how we can also bring the destination micro wedding to your guests at home. We feel it can be done by gifting your remote guests something to assist in creating a virtual experience. Send them a wonderful box from EazyGyft. With a luxurious invite from Ceci New York. Provide them with a detailed itinerary of the virtual event. Include a menu and a specialty cocktail that they can make at home. There are many ways to bring people with you. Invite some of your at-home guests to participate by giving toasts and have your music ready for your first dance.

We can’t wait to get to our new normal and we feel there is so much we will take out of this crisis and incorporate into our destination weddings in the future.

Until then, keep loving!
