Lexie and David get Married, a “Zoomeremony”

Lexie and David get Married, a “Zoomeremony”

We all have a friend or family member that has postponed or canceled their wedding this year. Ben and Jerry’s just did a canceled Wedding cake flavor, Cake batter ice cream with a non refundable deposit. This is one delicious way to drown our sorrows. Our research has shown that many people who were planning on operating without a Wedding planner or a destination event planner and were left with deposits to pay or big choices to make without guidance. One of my dear friends Lexie was getting married this summer. They were scheduled for August and she was planning on having a simple family affair at her Mom’s home.

-Enter COVID -19 weddings-

Lexie and David really did not know what to do. Like so many. Lexie and I had done a few calls about what they were up to and they were basically putting things off and trying to figure it out. I told Lexie I was doing a panel with Elisa from Adriana Weddings and asked her to hop on. It was a live panel about weddings in the Caribbean with a few of my fellow Planners that are based throughout the islands. As she listened I talked about marrying now and celebrating later, that these days micro weddings are not only on trend but happening and people are embracing them, people are getting married because they are thrilled to be in love and feel stronger now more than ever due to COVID. Add the ZOOM element and voilà you can get married anywhere. I find that these Zoomeremonies are still heartfelt, still beautiful and easy for everyone to tap into from near and far. What I loved was all the interaction guests had before and after the ceremony, sharing stories and talking about their registry.

The Outfits

As it turns out, Lexie was currently on Long Island with her parents, two brothers and Fiancé David. The property had a gorgeous outcropping over the water, a perfect spot for their wedding. She also had with her by chance a vintage Blue sundress. Distinctly on trend Ala Princess Beatrice, Princess Beatrice Wore A Vintage Norman Hartnell Gown To Marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi (this will be a new hot trend—upcycled, vintage, and borrowed wedding dresses). David wore a custom Duncan Quinn suit.

The Timeline

They decided to go for it on the Friday after our call, they called Be Wed By Fred LLC on Saturday and booked him for the following Wednesday. They acquired their marriage license on that Monday. One brother played the guitar and the other was the photographer. They bought fresh flowers at the local Farmer’s Market. They had a “Zoom handler”, that made sure all of their Zoomed in friends could hear and they were microphoned up. The ceremony lasted about 15 minutes and had a ritual I had never experienced before which was the Egg Cream ceremony. I personally love to add something to a ceremony that is unique to the couple and to their story. This was the perfect addition for them as you will read in Lexie’s words below.

Lexie is one of my oldest and dearest friends and I was grateful that I was part of the decision making process, but also that we are and will be triumphant over all that is going on. That life has changed but taken on new meaning. That love conquers over all the challenges we are facing. We are ready to assist with all of your Virtual weddings needs. Lexie says: “I had let go of the idea of getting married this summer when I packed my bags for vacation 10 days ago SO the only dress I brought was this 1960s vintage blue summer dress (something old and something blue!).

The Love Story

“Our story: we had been close friends as teenagers in the crazy days of the 1980’s E. village.  Life happened and we went our separate ways.  He got married and divorced and I had my own heartbreak.... then exactly 3 years ago we ran into each other on Ave A in front of our favorite egg cream stand Ray’s Candy Store. He offered me a ride uptown on his motorcycle and we’ve been together ever since.  In Honor of how we reconnected we did an egg cream ceremony using the same recipe as Ray’s, Fox’s U-bet chocolate syrup, cold milk and seltzer.”

I say that if you want to Marry now you can. Not only can you marry now and celebrate later but we are lucky to have the best technology to date that brings everyone from around the world to the ceremony. You can send people interactive gifts that can give them a sense of place and also a feeling that they are with you on your day. Gifting is now bigger than ever. Additionally, you can send cake, or recipes in advance. There are ways to create an interactive registry that could also contribute to your day. We would love to assist with not only making you feel comfortable but bringing you, your family and friends together for a seamless virtual event. The islands will be right here and waiting for your return whenever you are ready. Meanwhile, raise an egg cream to Lexie and David!
